Paper grade CMC is qualified at a named use point. Wet-end addition, surface sizing and coating have different priorities, so the RFQ must connect analytical data to the furnish, formulation, equipment and mill objective.

Controlled mill qualification
Record the current control, trial dosage, batch preparation, hold time, temperature and machine conditions. Predefine which changes can be attributed to the CMC trial and which process variables must remain fixed.
Incoming viscosity is useful for lot control only when the same method is used. Dissolution, filtration and gel or insoluble observations can reveal make-down risks not visible in a headline viscosity value.
